Story

Please support Gerard Anzani in Raising £5,000 for Chemotherapy Patients.

On 17th May 2025, Gerard Anzani will take on the incredible challenge of running 58 km in the Jurassic Coast Ultra Challenge to support people undergoing chemotherapy. He’ll be joined in the final 5 km by his father, Pat Anzani, making it a family effort to give back to an incredible cause.

We’re raising funds for the Ricky Grant Day Unit at Torbay Hospital. This vital oncology day centre provides chemotherapy, associated treatments, education, and support for individuals diagnosed and living with cancer. The unit urgently needs to replace its old-style chemotherapy chairs with specialist Boston Electric Waterfall Back Chairs, which will greatly enhance patients’ comfort during treatment.

This cause is deeply personal for Pat Anzani, who was diagnosed with gastro-oesophageal junction cancer in February 2024. Having undergone his chemotherapy treatment at the Ricky Grant Unit, Pat is now recovering and committed to supporting others facing similar challenges.

Reflecting on his experience, Pat said:

"I spent long hours receiving chemotherapy in the Ricky Grant Day Unit, often 5 to 6 hours a day. During this time, I witnessed the unwavering dedication, professionalism, and care shown by the staff. Their kindness, patience, and positivity made a challenging time more bearable. This inspired me to support the unit and help improve the comfort and experience of others undergoing treatment often for up to 9 hours a day."

Pat is also continuing his recovery journey by training to run at least 5 km alongside Gerard, demonstrating resilience and gratitude through this heartfelt effort.

We would be incredibly grateful for any support you can provide to help us reach our £5,000 goal. Every donation brings us closer to replacing the chemotherapy chairs and enhancing the care provided at the Ricky Grant Day Unit.

On behalf of Torbay and South Devon NHS Charity, Rachael Bryett expressed how grateful the Ricky Grant Day Unit team is to Pat and Gerard for taking on this fantastic challenge:

"Funds raised for the charity help us to offer comforts that greatly improve the experience for our patients, ranging from equipment like scalp cooling machines to complimentary hot beverages. At present, we are focused on raising funds to upgrade the chairs used by patients during chemotherapy, ensuring they feel as comfortable as possible throughout their treatment. Every contribution brings us closer to acquiring new chairs and on behalf of the Unit, we’d like to say a big thank you to everyone for supporting Pat and Gerard’s fundraising."
