Story

I'm running the Dublin Marathon for Dementia UK in memory of my mum, Frances 💙

Mum suffered from dementia, and I saw first-hand how cruel and devastating the disease can be. Watching her gradually lose her independence and the life she once knew was heartbreaking. As her son, I often felt helpless you want to make things better, but dementia is something you cannot fix.

That experience has stayed with me, which is why running 26.2 miles means more to me than completing a marathon. I’ll be thinking of Mum, the woman she was before dementia, and the memories the disease could never take away.

I’m raising money for Dementia UK, whose Admiral Nurses provide specialist support to families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. They offer advice, reassurance and practical help, supporting people with dementia to remain independent for as long as possible and helping families through an incredibly difficult journey.

Every step will be for my beloved mum and all those people robbed by this horrible disease 💔

If you can sponsor me, I’d be incredibly grateful. Every donation will help this wonderful organisation support more families affected by dementia.

This one is for you, Mum. ❤️

Thank you for your support.

Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Our nurses, called Admiral Nurses, provide life-changing care to families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease. They help people with dementia stay independent for longer, and support the people caring for them so they have the strength to cope with the bad days, and the energy to enjoy the good days. They have the time to listen and the knowledge to solve problems, helping families take back control when they are struggling.
