Hard to believe it is 25 years since I heard the words ‘you have breast cancer’ it was 1 in 9 in 2001, fast forward to 2026 and it is 1 in 7 now. A frightening statistic!

It still feels surreal, did it really happen to me, but then I remember the surgery, the chemo and all the operations after, and another fairly tricky operation due hopefully before the end of this year.

They say don’t let cancer define you, I haven’t but it did shift my perspective and what is important to me.

I’ve spent 23 years fundraising and filling my life with events that have brought me so much joy, have taught me that my biggest strength is never giving up.

From getting married, having 2 beautiful girls, travelling, finding a love for running, and giving back to charity as much as I can in any little way.

So hear I am again, taking on another challenge, having recently recovered from pneumonia I’m learning that I’m not getting younger and I need to take it a little easier, so I’m going to celebrate my 25 years free from cancer, starting off with the Derby Ramathon in June and finishing my fundraising when I hit my 53rd birthday, running the Manchester half marathon on 4th October.

We live every day, we die once. I’m filling my life with the things I love, and I hope by doing so I can raise as much as I can this year for Breast Cancer now, so that the next lady hearing those 3 life changing words gets the best chance of survival and live their life beyond Cancer 🙏
