Project Play: Uganda 2024 · 1 June 2024 to 31 August 2024 ·

Play Action International works across the world to help refugee s and other vulnerable children to learn, develop and heal through the power of play.

Story

Hi, my name is Tricia and I am a mature student in my second year studying Psychology at the University of Liverpool.  This summer, I will be travelling to Uganda for two weeks to volunteer with Play Action International to transform a playground at a local school.

Me and my fellow volunteers will provide the unskilled work needed to to create a school playground from start to finish. The children at our school have known for a year that they will be getting a playground this summer and they cannot wait!

From digging holes and mixing concrete to building and painting equipment, we will work together to create a colourful, fun and exciting space for children to enjoy.

As a mother of three children, I know the importance of play based learning in children’s development. Having a space to learn and explore through play develops curiosity and creativity, skills essential for success.

Your donations will fund the materials needed such as the metal, sand and cement we will use to build the playground. They also will provide playground equipment such as swings, seesaws and slides.

Play Action International focuses on sustainability, therefore your donations further contribute to the ongoing training of local staff who lead us volunteers in creating these playgrounds. To date, this charity have built over 370 playgrounds, providing 560,000 children with a safe space to play, learn and develop.

As a result of playgrounds being built, schools report that:

- 98% report an increase in attendance in school.

- 74% of children gave 'The Playground' as a reason to attend school.

- 83% of teachers reported improvements in children's attention and behaviour.

Any and all donations will be much appreciated and I thank you so much for supporting this important charity.

Many Thanks!

Tricia
