My son Thomas was born extremely prematurely in July 2022, at 24 weeks gestation. He weighed only 700g. On arriving with us, he was immediately admitted into the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Liverpool Women’s Hospital where he would stay for the first 117 days of his life.

During his time in the NICU he received nothing but the best and most attentive, round the clock care we could have ever hoped for. There were many ups and downs and a lot of tough decisions to be made. Not only was Thomas looked after, but the nurses and consultants ensured we were kept in the loop and understood what Thomas was going through.

If it wasn’t for the NICU and its amazing staff, equipment and facilities, we would have faced a much different outcome.

I am raising money for the NICU at Liverpool Women’s Hospital so they can continue to provide fantastic care, giving sick and premature babies the best chance of survival, like they did for Thomas.

On 8th October 2023 I will be running a marathon through three countries (Germany, Austria and Switzerland); one country for every full month Thomas was in the hospital. I have never ran a marathon before so it will be a challenge to complete. Vicki and Thomas will be coming along to support me and cheer me over the finish line.
