Story
In 1981, I met a girl called Moira McGann. She was so friendly and chatty and we just clicked and became firm friends very quickly. We worked together and were inseparable. Moira was my rock; straight-talking and honest, but always at the end of a phone or with me to support and help when things were tough. She was always just there, at any family event, helping, supporting and having fun. One of a kind, one in a million, the blonde bombshell (as we called her) was just one of the kindest, most caring and fun-loving people you could wish to meet. Chief Bridesmaid at my wedding, Godmother to one of my children and Auntie Moira to the rest. She was a huge part of my family.
When I first met Keith, nothing changed - Moira and Keith became friends, and when Moira phoned she would often speak to Keith for half an hour before I got to speak with her. She just fitted in, she was the girl that you could take anywhere and she would fit in, she could talk to anyone. Keith, Moira and I spent many evenings setting the world to rights. The children loved when she visited (and she did visit often), because there was always a big bag of sweets and chocolates for them, too. There was not a single Christmas Day when we didn’t speak, to wish each other a Happy Christmas. Moira was just there, just family.
I can remember the exact day and time that she phoned to tell me her news. I couldn’t quite believe it, there must be something that could be done. I was in denial but googled brain tumours and was absolutely devastated, at what I read. Moira fought her cancer with everything she had, but sadly she lost her battle. I just want to honour this wonderful woman by raising money for The Brain Tumour Charity.
The Jurassic Coast Ultra Challenge is 100km, walking and taking place over 2 days, the 16th and 17th of May 2026. I have opted to do the continuous walk so will walk through day and night until I finish. Every single step will be in memory of my dearest friend Moira.
