Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running (jogging/walking/crawling) the London Marathon in memory of my great friend Mike Newbrook who sadly passed away in 2024 from a rare and aggressive form of leukemia.
Mike and I worked together in the police and quickly became close friends. He was someone who would do anything to help anyone. I was lucky enough to share a flat with Mike and I introduced him to my good friend Lorna. They went on to get married and have two beautiful boys together.
Following his diagnosis in 2023, Mike was given 16 more precious months with Lorna and the boys thanks to receiving over 100 units of blood products. That time allowed them to talk about what mattered, to prepare, to record his voice, and for Mike to write letters for the boys. None of that would have been possible without all of those who donate blood.
As part of his legacy, Lorna has encouraged people to donate blood through the @PintforMike campaign. So far, over 650 pints have been donated in Mike's memory!!
Although I have been given this opportunity with just over 7 weeks notice (and having never run more than 15k before), it's a real honour to be running in support of the NHS Blood and Transplant charity and @PintforMike.
Thank you so much for all your support.
