Story
As a lot of you will know, Jakey was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in July 2022. At that point, his life changed forever. He could no longer produce insulin and his day to day is now very different.
He had to learn to carb count before every meal, he had to calculate how much insulin he needed, he had to finger prick and test his blood several times a day, he had to inject himself 7 to 10 times a day, sometimes more, he had to carry a medical kit with him everywhere he went, we had to educate family and friends, including Jakes friends, on what to look out for if his blood levels were low/high and how to treat it. All while he was just trying to be a kid fitting in at school.
This is his normal, but Jake is far from it.
Not one element of having T1D has held him back. I'm convinced it's made him stronger. We honestly couldn't be more proud of him.
He's an exceptional kind and caring human being who doesn't deserve to have this condition constantly tapping him on the shoulder for the rest of his life. No one does.
So, I'm running 62 miles in March to raise money for Diabetes UK.
This exceptional charity funds ground breaking research into new treatments and a cure. They also provide support and campaign for better care for everyone affected by all form of Diabetes.
Jake has access to some great tech, but it's a real postcode lottery and this needs to change.
If you are able to spare any money to help support this amazing charity, we'd be most grateful.
