Paul Bamforth is raising money for Diabetes UK

Running the Rome Marathon · 22 March 2026

Diabetes UK is the charity leading the fight against the UK's devastating and fastest growing health crisis, working to create a world where diabetes can do no harm. It’s a fight that involves all of us – sharing knowledge and taking diabetes on together. Join us.

Story

For some crazy reason I am running the Rome marathon on Sunday 22nd March and have managed to rope in my children (Meg, Jake, Harry) and son-in-law (Fred). It will be the first time any of us have run a marathon and all because 18 months ago when I was 60 I decided I should do one 😊

As we now edge closer to it becoming a reality we have decided we should use the platform to do something positive in terms of raising monies for an organization that is very important to us, Diabetes UK.

Julie, my wife/partner for 39 years, has been a type 1 diabetic since just before her 22nd birthday. She has always managed her chronic illness without any fuss with many people not realizing she lives with it. She was one of the first people in Worcestershire to get a AI pump and we are indebted to the support she gets from the diabetic community. This has been especially true over the past couple of years as she struggles with her eyesight.

So now is the time to help support Diabetes UK and we as a family would really appreciate any support you are happy to offer.
