Story

I have have 4 fantastic children!

My second born daughter, Ninny has been diagnosed at the age of 14 with Cystic Fibrosis, two of my other children, Betty and Spike also have the same genetic make up which has come as a shock to us all. My first born Isobel may be a carrier, we don’t know. I’ll be the first to admit I knew nothing about Cystic Fibrosis and the fact it is classed as a rare disease and as such doesn’t get the funding it needs. So I’ve decided to dig out my trainers and attempt to run 26.2 miles at the London Marathon. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic condition which causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system. It affects more than 10,800 people in the UK. One in 25 of us carries the faulty gene that causes it, usually without knowing.

Cystic fibrosis comes with challenges, affecting our physical health, mental wellbeing and how we choose to live our lives. But our community is uniting towards the ultimate goal of effective treatment for all.

Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the charity uniting people to stop cystic fibrosis.
