Story
I first raised money for The Seafarers’ Charity (KGFS) as a 15 year old cadet at school. Fast forward 35+ years later, I find myself coming to the end of nearly 10 years as a trustee of the charity and for the most part, its Chairman.
Over the next two months, I will be taking part in two huge events in the hope of raising £6000 to mark the end of my time as the charity’s Chair. Firstly, on the 5/6th Sept the South Coast Ultra Challenge; a 100km continuous and gruelling hike along the South Downs Way. Secondly, the Great South Run on 18th Oct.
As a former professional mariner myself, the welfare of our seafarers - who are often out of sight and out of mind - is close to my heart.
The Seafarers' Charity makes a life-changing impact in troubled times. Our grants to organisations support those who work – or have worked – at sea, and their families. Through funding collaboration, research and advocacy, we tackle the root causes of seafarer hardship and disadvantage in the UK and around the world.
I know there is great call on everyone’s generosity, but I would be immensely grateful for any support. These will not be easy events, but they will be nothing compared to the hardships which seafarers endure, in keeping global trade flowing and all of us stocked with everyday goods and food.
Thank you hugely in advance.
Paul
