Crisis at Christmas - Paul Darvill Sponsored Volunteering

Volunteering over the festive season for a fantastic cause · 30 December 2024
This year, for the first time for me, I have arranged to complete a couple of shifts in Central London as a volunteer for Crisis this Christmas. I’ll be there for people as they build their lives beyond homelessness.
I want to make sure that the people I help continue to get the support they need after Christmas.
Could you sponsor me and help make this happen? Your support will help fund Crisis’ year-round services, ending people’s homelessness for good.
Please give as little or as much as you can afford - every little will count of course.
Thanks for your attention and Merry Christmas
If you want to know more please read some insight which inspired me below, or just google Crisis at Christmas
The UK Government has published data revealing that the number of households trapped in temporary accommodation in England has reached a new record high. 112,660 households were living in temporary accommodation such as nightly paid B&Bs between October and December 2023 - an increase of 12% on the same period last year, and an increase of 98% on 2013. This includes over 145,800 children.
That’s right - an increase of 98% in ten years!!!!!! Just let that sink in 😳
Crisis at Christmas isn’t just about helping people who are sleeping rough (although those numbers were up 37% year on year too according to statistics).
It is there to support the tens of thousands of people in London who are sofa surfing or staying in totally unsuitable temporary accommodation, such as nightly stay B&Bs. Can you imagine where your mental state would be if you literally had a small bedroom and a shared bathroom as your long term living space?
The strategy at Crisis over the next ten years, starting right now with your kind donations, is -
By 2034, for thousands of people experiencing homelessness, the nightmare will be over. Working together we will:
secure government strategies for ending every kind of homelessness across Britain
see a marked drop in homelessness across Britain
see a reduction in homelessness by up to 50% in every area with a dedicated Crisis Centre
double our success so that over 80% of our members leave homelessness behind for good
provide over 1,000 homes to our members
expand Crisis at Christmas, and make sure 80% of people don’t return to the street
positively change public attitudes to homelessness.
Please give what you can comfortably afford - literally every pound counts. If all my connections have a pound I would be way beyond my target for my sponsored volunteer days I am attending over Christmas this year.
And finally for those generous people who decided to support me in making a difference to homeless individuals already - I thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️
