Story
On Sunday 11 October 2026, I’ll be running my first Royal Parks Half Marathon as part of Liberty Rock Runs.
Taking on my first half marathon at the age of 60 is a significant personal challenge. When I began training, my regular runs were around two and a half miles; I have since built that distance to approximately ten miles, with plenty more training still to come before race day.
I am raising money for Kane’s World Foundation, a charity with a particularly important personal connection for me.
My sister, Claire, runs Kane’s World alongside my cousin Kelly. Kelly’s son, Kane, is profoundly autistic and non-verbal. The charity was inspired by Kane’s experiences and the challenges his family encountered in finding safe, suitable and genuinely inclusive places for him.
Kane’s World is working to create a dedicated play, sensory and learning environment for children with special educational needs and disabilities. Its aim is to provide somewhere children can feel safe, understood and celebrated, while their families feel welcomed and supported rather than judged.
As part of Liberty Rock Runs, I am also supporting The Brain Tumour Charity. My overall personal target is £2,000, which I am aiming to divide equally between the two charities.
If you are kind enough to sponsor me, please donate to whichever of my two pages currently has the lower total. This will help keep my fundraising as close to 50/50 as possible.
Every donation will directly support a cause that is very close to my family, while also giving me plenty of motivation to complete all 13.1 miles.
Thank you very much.
Paul
