On Sunday 11 October 2026, I’ll be taking on the Royal Parks Half Marathon as part of Liberty Rock Runs, alongside my colleagues Ben Malpass and Stephanie Day.

This will be my first half marathon and, having turned 60 this year, it is certainly one of the biggest physical challenges I have undertaken.

When I began training, my regular runs were only around two and a half miles. Since then, I have steadily built the distance to around ten miles, while navigating the occasional knee problem and discovering that running 13.1 miles requires rather more commitment than simply putting on a pair of trainers!

As a team, Liberty Rock Runs has chosen to support The Brain Tumour Charity, which funds vital research, campaigns for better treatment and provides support for people diagnosed with brain tumours and their families.

For my personal fundraising, I have decided to support two charities equally: The Brain Tumour Charity and Kane’s World Foundation.

Kane’s World has a very personal connection for me. My sister, Claire, runs the charity alongside my cousin Kelly. Kelly’s son, Kane, is profoundly autistic and non-verbal, and it was his experiences—and those of his family—that inspired the creation of Kane’s World.

The foundation is working to create a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment designed specifically for children with special educational needs and disabilities, where they can play, learn and be accepted without judgement.

My overall goal is to raise £2,000, divided as evenly as possible between the two charities.

Because JustGiving cannot automatically split donations between two charities, there will be a separate fundraising page for each one. If you are kind enough to sponsor me, please donate to whichever of my two pages currently has the lower total. This will help me keep the fundraising as close to 50/50 as possible.

Every donation, whatever the amount, will make a genuine difference—and will give me some much-needed encouragement as the mileage increases!
