Martial Arts Kicks - 20,000 in July

Our vision is a world where people with Tourette Syndrome (TS) get the practical support and social acceptance they need to live their lives to the full. We aid their inclusion in education, work, and society throughout their lives, and support research and aim to raise awareness.

Story

July Charity Challenge – Kicks for Tourette’s Action

As part of my 2025 charity challenge series, I’ll be taking on my 7th challenge in July: completing a minimum 20,000 martial arts kicks over the course of the month. The plan was to have a higher target, but unfortunately, I’ve injured my knee and still recovering, so tackling this one with a handicap.

I was still deciding on a challenge when I came across a powerful Facebook post and video about Nico — a talented young martial artist who trains at the same club as me, Elemental Kickboxing Academy. Nico lives with Tourette syndrome, and I was deeply moved by the story that was shared. It highlighted the challenges he continues to face, but more than that, it celebrated his determination, resilience, and he’s made amazing progress on his martial arts journey.

That moment of inspiration made my decision clear — I’ll be dedicating this challenge to Tourette’s Action, the UK’s only national charity supporting individuals and families affected by Tourette syndrome. They’re working towards a world where people with Tourette syndrome are accepted, supported, and embraced.

Even more special is that Nico will be joining me in this challenge! Together, we’ll be taking on 40,000 kicks — a shared effort to raise awareness and celebrate strength through adversity.

While I’m not actively seeking donations, I will be making a personal contribution to support the fantastic work of Tourette’s Action. If you do feel moved to donate, any amount — big or small — would mean the world to us and help keep us going, one kick at a time.
