Story
I'm running the Great North Run 2026 for Brain Tumour Research!
My friend since Primary School, Rich Hughes, passed away recently . I've known Rich since we were 5 years old. He was a lovely, hard working, full of life, family man. He was only 58 years old with everything to live for.
Rich died suffering from Glioblastoma, which is a very aggressive brain tumour. From Rich's diagnosis to his premature death was a matter of weeks, it has devastated his wife, children, family and friends and has been hard to come to terms with for everyone.
When Rich lost his older brother Steve to cancer, he decided to run the Great North Run to raise money for charity in his brothers name and I feel it will be my honour to run The Great North Run for Rich.
I hope that the money I raise will help Brain Tumour Research find a breakthrough treatment so no other families have to go through this heartbreak.
Thank you for any donation that you can possibly spare
Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet historically just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease.
Brain Tumour Research is determined to change this.
Brain Tumour Research is the only national charity in the UK focused on finding a cure for all types of brain tumours through campaigning to increase the national investment in brain tumour research to £35 million per year, while fundraising to create a network of seven sustainable Brain Tumour Research Centres of Excellence across the UK.
