Story
For those who may be unaware of my situation, in November 2019 I had a catastrophic accident while I was windsurfing where I sustained a spinal cord injury which has left me very much paralysed. Before my accident I competed in Weymouth Speedweek many times and it was an event I really enjoyed doing with some very good friends in a very relaxed and enjoyable environment.
Over the week of the 11th and 12th October I will be returning to Weymouth Speedweek where I will be getting back on the water with a few friends to hurtle down a 500 meter speed course in Portland Harbour, Dorset. Whilst doing this it is an ideal opportunity to raise a few pounds for a charity named BLESMA which has been very good to me since my accident in 2019.
So the idea this year is to return again with some good friends and get back down the Portland Harbour speed course using a giant size paddleboard with a couple of people using wings to power us along with me sitting pretty on a chair in the middle of the board. What could possibly go wrong!
The charity I have chosen to support whilst doing this is the British Limbless Ex Servicemens Association (BLESMA) https://www.blesma.org/. BLESMA is a charity dedicated to assisting limbless veterans to lead independent fulfilling lives. It is an armed forces charity dedicated to assisting serving and ex-service men and women who have suffered life-changing limb loss or the use of a limb, an eye or sight. They support these men and women in their communities throughout the UK. BLESMA is 100% funded through donations only. BLESMA looked after me and my family extremely well at our time of need following my accident and we were given invaluable advice and mentoring to get us through a horrific situation. BLESMA were able, along with several other services charities, to get me back to my home with my family after a very long period in hospital and care. All of this takes money to provide their service to people such as me so I hope you are able to sponsor me with a few quid for this very worthwhile cause.
Thank you so much.
