paul o'boyle is raising money for University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity

Four full marathons in twenty-four hours · 4 July 2026

Enhancing the care and treatment of patients accessing NHS services at Poole, Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals by fundraising to provide enhanced facilities, state of the art equipment and support NHS staff health, wellbeing and development.

Story

On Saturday 4th July 2026 at 9am from Pier Approach, Bournemouth, I am taking on the challenge of running four full marathons in a 24-hour period, finishing by 9am on Sunday 5th July 2026. I will complete *8 laps of the measured Bournemouth Bay Half marathon. The challenge will be to raise funds for the Ladybird Breast Cancer Unit at Poole Hospital.

I was referred to the Ladybird Unit two years ago when I found out that I had cancer of the nipple. I was treated successfully and not long after I had my nipple amputated, I was given the all-clear. The care and support I received was excellent and I was kept informed and always reassured. When I spoke to my consultant post-op I assured them that I would use my passion for running to raise funds for the unit. And not one to break my promises or steer clear of challenges, I have decided now is the right time to take on this venture.

As well as raising funds, I want to bring awareness to male breast cancer which is not reported about as often. If caught early, it can be treated very successfully, so it’s important for men to look out for signs of breast/nipple cancer, as much as women.

I have started my training regime this week and all is going well so far. I will be in this training mode until the day of the challenge. I will have lots of people support me in preparing for this, and to them I am thankful. I will keep everyone updated on my Facebook page and will post updates here on Just Giving.

If you can make any donation, no matter how much or little, I would really appreciate your support. If you can share this page with your friends and family, that would also be appreciated. I hope you all agree the more we can raise awareness of male breast cancer, the more we can have success stories, like I was lucky enough to have. Thanks for taking time to read my story and for any donation you can make.
