Paul's fundraiser for Alzheimer's Research UK

Ok. So it seems like I'm going to hurt myself doing this. On the face of it 4 rounds of glof seems like a lovely day out right? In fact a round of golf takes 4 hours (or 5 if you are as rubbish as me), that means we will have to be stood on the 1st tee as the sun comes up at 4.30am, then play constantly with no rest until it sets at 9.30pm on the longest day of the year, so we don't end up scrabbling around in the dark after more than 18 miles of walking. It takes me about 100 shots to play a round of golf, the guys I'm playing with take about 80, that means over the course of the day I'm going to end up playing a whole extra round more than my much younger and fitter playing partners!
Please have a look below for the real reason we are doing this. We all probably know someone that has been affected by a neurodegerative disease and the scientists and clinicians that strive everyday to find treatments, diagnosis and cures need a steady stream of funding to do this. Anything you give to Alzheimer's Research UK will be put to good use, I promise....
Firstly, thank you for taking the time to look and read through this page.
We are golfing buddies that love a challenge and we certainly won't shy away from such a gruelling day of exercise! Whether we are playing together on societies or going away on golfing holidays, playing 72 holes in one day is a challenge like no other! The game of golf will live in us for a long time as we continue to enjoy all the emotions it throws at us as well as all the challenges!
Like the game of golf, Dementia can cause a whole mix of emotions within us and our loved ones and it's a horrible way to end life. It can be quite the battle and test. We would like to aid the fantastic research that this charity carries out with the hope that the future can bring change and someday cure this consuming disease.
Exercise improves mental health; fact! We can protect and improve our well being by taking steps to keep our brains healthy and reducing our risk of developing dementia later in life by taking regular daily exercise. Playing golf is a great way to socialise with friends, but also each round is 4-5 miles long and good physical exercise, certainly gets the steps in!
We would like to honour loved ones lost and situations a new with this fundraiser for such a worthy cause. We appreciate any donation that you make and our thoughts and thanks go out to you.
Kindest regards,
The golfing gods.......
