Story

Some of the Oxford CureHeart team - Paul Robinson, Max Hill, Ruth McCaffrey (Nellist) and Ruth's husband (Pete Nellist) - are doing the BHF London to Brighton bike ride, on Sunday 21 June.

The 54 mile / 86.9 km ride includes an elevation gain of approx. 1,000 meters / 3,000 ft, with the most challenging climb near the end of the route. We are fundraising for the BHF, as a thank you for their generous funding of the CureHeart programme.

CureHeart aims to develop cures for inherited cardiomyopathies (heart muscle disease) using advanced genetic therapies (www.cureheart.org). Cardiomyopathies cause the walls of the heart to be become stretched, thickened or stiff, affecting the heart's ability to pump blood around the body. This can lead to abnormal heart rhythms, heart failure, and even sudden cardiac arrest. Cardiomyopathy affects 1 in 250 people worldwide and can be passed down through families. CureHeart is an international team of world-leading scientists and clinicians, from the UK and the US, as well as patient advocacy partners, who are working together to cure these devastating conditions.
