Ride to the Sun – Carlisle to Cramond · 24 June 2023

Since 1993, we have impacted the lives of over 250,000 people living in hard-to-reach communities in rural Nepal. We have built or renovated over 160 earthquake resilient schools, creating safe and inclusive learning environments. Our other projects include community health and sanitation projects.

Story

Two years after a half marathon challenge for the Pahar Trust Nepal, it is time to take to two wheels for a 100 mile / 160 km ride through the night from Carlisle in England to arrive at sunrise on the beach at Cramond in Scotland. The longest bike ride I have ever done before this challenge is about 60 kilometres, so I'm going to need to get prepared... and that's even before we talk about sleep deprivation!

I'm riding with David and Tom, who inspired me to do this in the first place, and hopefully we can raise a lot of money for the Pahar Trust Nepal – an organisation I have had a long connection with and who do brilliant work for rural and isolated communities in Nepal.

They work on three main areas of impact, and everything donated will go to communities in Nepal to help with the following challenges:

Education – building safe and secure schools, supporting teachers to provide high-quality education.

Health – providing and improving access to health services and advice to isolated rural communities.

Water & Sanitation – ensuring all schools have sanitation facilities and provide safe water supplies to communities.

Throughout the build-up to the ride I will be posting stories from Nepal and the work that the Pahar Trust Nepal does, so that you can get an idea of the type of work your kind donations will support.

Thanks in advance,

Paul (and Tom and David)
