Story

Running for Brenda. For Andrew. For Everyone with MND.

Thanks for visiting our JustGiving page.

This July marks 20 years since we lost my wife Gill’s mum, Brenda, to Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Last year, we were devastated to learn that Gill’s brother, Andrew, has been diagnosed with advanced MND.

In 2024, Gill ran the Leeds Half Marathon to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA). She was then honoured to be invited to run a mile alongside Kevin Sinfield on the final stretch of his epic Christmas ultra marathons. Watching Kevin push through pain to support others—always with humility and heart—was the moment I decided:

I’m running the Leeds Half Marathon too.

At 63 years old, having never run more than five miles, this is a challenge. But I’m determined to not only complete it—I’m going to enjoy it and raise as much as I can for a cause that means everything to us.

When I announced this to our family at Christmas, Dan didn’t hesitate. He signed up too.

Now, if you know Dan, you know he’s far more comfortable doing laps of the pub than laps of a track. His idea of cardio used to be a sprint to the bar before last orders. But now, somehow, he’s swapped pint glasses for protein shakes.

Yes—Dan is running.

Training has been tough (there’s been wheezing, sweating, and possibly some tears), but he’s doing it. We both are.

We’re running for Brenda, for Andrew, and for everyone facing the cruel reality of MND. The MNDA provides essential support, funds crucial research, and brings hope to families like ours.

Please donate if you can. Every pound makes a difference. Every step we take is for a future without MND.

Thank you so much,

Paul & Dan
