Story
In the early hours of 25 July 2000, my step mother, who had been a mother figure to me since I was around two years old, ended her life after a long and difficult battle with depression. It wasn’t her first attempt, and she often carried her pain alone, shutting down, locking herself away, or disappearing for days at a time.
This year, I’m running Hackney Half in Gail’s honour and aiming to beat my Half Marathon PB. I’m also using the opportunity to raise funds for a charity that plays a vital role in saving lives and supporting people in crisis. Sometimes a single conversation can help someone step back from the brink and that’s exactly what Samaritans are there for.
Samaritans rely on kind donations and the dedication of 23,000 listening volunteers to be there 24/7 for anyone struggling to cope.
If you’re able to donate, no matter the amount, it will directly help ensure someone has a listening ear when they need it most. Your support would mean a great deal to me and could make a life changing difference to someone else.
Thank you
Many people find it hard to speak openly or ask for help, but talking can be life-saving – whether it's with a colleague, family member, friend or helpline like Samaritans. Every 10 seconds, Samaritans volunteers respond to a call for help. Samaritans are available, for free, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to listen and support people with whatever they are facing, with no judgement.
It’s only your kind donations and 23,000 listening volunteers that ensure Samaritans can always be there for anyone struggling to cope. Thank you for your help.
