Story

A Tour To Help Us All.

On the 31st October 2022 my wife Alison Templeman-Wright of 31 years died of breast cancer. She passed away in the Royal Marsden Hospital at Chelsea in London where she worked as the Senior Art Psychotherapist supporting cancer patients of all ages.

Everyday Alison is in my thoughts. There is not a day that goes by without me wishing she was still by my side and to be there for both our son and daughter. Without Alison and when on my own I live in the past with my memories.

They say that time is a great healer. I am finding that as time passes I just get better at hiding my feelings when in public but when my front door closes I am faced with my ever present feelings of: the loss of my companion in life, guilt at being alive with a future which was denied to my wife and loneliness as the person l thought would be by my side for the rest of my life has gone for ever.

My life, I have now accepted, will never be the same again. I fully appreciate that sadly I am not alone being a cancer widower. The only way I deal with this scenario is to wake up every day and put one foot in front of the other and get on with living in the knowledge that is what Alison would want for me and our two children.

To date I have raised money for both Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie by swimming all the previous 38 National Swimathons at the 5K distance dating back to 1988. I will continue to support these charities through my swimming.

Motorcycle Tour 1 2024

In October 2023 as the first anniversary of my wife’s passing approached, I decided that I wanted to do so much more to help raise funds and awareness for Cancer Research UK. The current statistics tell us that every 2 minutes someone in the UK will get a cancer diagnosis and that 1 in 2 of us will get cancer, hence funding vital research that could help all of us is key. I therefore came up with the idea to combine my enjoyment of motorcycling with raising funds by completing a Solo UK Motorcycle Tour in September 2024. It was a wonderful experience and it doing this tour I raised £8000. I can’t thank enough all the people who helped to make this my first ever motorcycle tour such a success.

Motorcycle Tour 2 2025

Motivated by my first tour I have set about planning for my second tour. This time I am focusing on raising money for The Royal Marsden Hospitals which is wholly relevant to my family as it was the place where my wife was happiest whilst working both in Chelsea and Sutton as the Senior Art Psychotherapist. I am very pleased, in fact over the moon, that I have the pleasure of working again alongside Mark Hollands Head of Business, Vines of Guildford (Motorrad) and his super team and Tammy Savill from The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

Mark has agreed to once again loan me a R1300GS motorcycle to cover my route which will cover approximately 2,500 miles. Collectively Tammy and Mark will be working with me on the promotional and marketing strategy. Their individual and collective efforts are very much appreciated by me to make my 2nd Solo Motorcycle Tour a success.
