Walk 100 miles in August

Adventure is at the heart of everything we do. It is the single most important thing that sets Scouts apart. Through the everyday adventure of Scouting, young people and adult volunteers regularly experience new challenges that enrich their lives.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

During the Summer holidays I have given myself the challenge of walking 100 miles in August. To raise some money to go towards the new scouts HQ.

*** UPDATE*** I hit my target for August so I have set myself another target of 600 miles by my 72nd birthday in November.

At the Stamford Dog Show on 24th September I will also be having my hair chopped off to help raise funds.

The current HQ building is, well, old. And its not able to support the needs and demands of the Scouts and community. We are unable to adapt it for wheelchairs or less able persons.

We need a completely new HQ.

Some may say that this is an easy task, but for me it will most certainly be a challenge.

Those of you that know me know that I am not the most mobile person... Over the years I have had numerous operations, namely on my hips

* In July 1992 I had corrective surgery on my right hip and straighten my right femur with screws and plates

* May 1994 the metal work had to be removed as the screws had become loose!

* 1996 I had 2 operations to relieve problems with my right hip joint.

* 3 rd September 2020 - I had a fall and my right femur snapped!! Ouch! Had to be nailed and screwed.

* June 2021 – Left femur nailed and screwed to prevent it fracturing

* March 29th 2023 – Nails and screws removed as incorrectly fitted and catching on my muscle and nerves.

* 29 th May – Finally off crutches for hopefully the last time!

So you can see how this will be a great challenge.. At the moment I am working my way up to some decent mileage so fingers crossed I can get to 100 miles (or perhaps even more!) in August.

Anything that you can give would be greatly appreciated by myself and all of the Beaver, Cubs and Scouts that will use the new HQ.
