On Sunday 24th September, our beautiful Charlie boy was out for a late night walk for his last pee before bed. Within minutes of leaving the house, Charlie and my dad Geo were brutally attacked by a neighbours vicious dog who has escaped from the house. The owners were unaware it had even left.

In a ten minute frenzied attack, Charlie suffered significant injuries. My dad fought desperately to free Charlie from the dog. When he managed to get the dog to let him go, Charlie fled running 1.5 miles for his life. The dog then turned on my dad, biting his leg. Neighbours joined the search for Charlie and he is as found 45mins later, at the side of the road, bleeding and afraid.

Charlie was taken to the emergency animal hospital and looked after overnight. On Monday morning, the PDSA carried out extensive surgery on our boy, debriding his wounds to try and aid his recovery. Charlie had over 100 stitches inside and out, with extensive abdominal wounds.

Over the course of the week, the PDSA looked after Charlie, trying absolutely everything to help him recover. They kept his pain meds under control, ensuring he was comfortable despite the horror he had endured.

Unfortunately, our poor little man's body had been through too much. He couldn't stop being sick, he hadn't eaten for 5 days since the attack, and sadly his liver started to fail.

On Friday evening, surrounded by all of our love, we had to say a gut wrenching goodbye to our beautiful boy. He fought so hard to stay with us, but he had been through too much.

Had it not been for the PDSA, we wouldn't have had this extra week watching our strong boy give it his all. We wouldn't have had the comfort in knowing we had done everything in our power to help him, and we wouldn't have had a calm, loving final hour with him.

Charlie was so well loved by anyone who ever met him. He's well known in the community and touched so many hearts. We are all absolutely devastated to have lost him on such a tragic manner at only 4 years young.

I'd like to ask anyone who loved our boy, to donate anything they can, even a pound, to the PDSA in Charlie's memory. If they can save one more pet in his name, then Charlie's memory will always live on ❤️.
