Pedal3Peaks fundraiser for Spinal Research

Pedal3Peaks · 11 May 2025
In March, 2024, my beautiful sister Caroline died by assisted suicide. Her death came just two years after she was paralysed in a fall from her horse at a cross-country event. She was just 31.
Like many people I thought being in a wheelchair was just about not being able to walk, but it’s so much more than that. It was something that Caroline did not want to live with.
But she also really believed in the need and value of pursuing scientific advances to find a cure for spinal cord injuries.
So, on Sunday, May 11, I am cycling nearly 870 miles from Balmoral Castle to Windsor Castle and also climbing the UK’s three highest peaks on route to raise vital funds for Spinal Research. And I'm aiming to achieve all this in under 100 hours!
Day One of Pedal3Peaks starts with a cycle of over 100 miles to the base of Ben Nevis before then climbing the 1,345m peak. Day Two will involve a gruelling 220-mile bike ride to the Southern Lake District followed on Day 3 by an early morning ascent of Scafell Pike (978m) before getting on my bike to cycle around 180 miles to Snowdonia in Wales. On Day 4, it’s a short ride to the base of Snowdon, summiting the 1,085m peak and then getting back on my bike for a leg and lung-sapping 200-plus mile cycle to the Cotswolds. On Day Five, Thursday, May 13, it’s the final 100-mile push to Windsor Castle where the challenge will end at the Royal Windsor Horse Show.
So, if you can, please support me. We couldn’t save Caroline, but perhaps we can make a difference and help others paralysed after suffering a spinal cord injury – and that’s one person every two hours in the UK.
Globally, it is estimated that 15.4 million people are living with paralysis. It can happen to anyone at any time, changing lives instantly.
Spinal Research is the UK’s leading charity funding and supporting the best research around the world to develop life-changing new treatments and therapies for spinal cord injuries.
Together, we can cure paralysis.
