Story
Hello, my name is Rebecca Chapman and I'm the manager at Jackson's Rescue Cat Cafe.
With so many vet trips, scans, health checks and medical expenses recently, we thought we'd put our legs to work to help raise some much-needed funds for the cats! π
We're going to be setting up an exercise bike right here in the cafΓ© and attempting to cycle a whopping 110 MILES! π΄ββοΈπ¨
Why 110 miles?
Because we've been caring for animals for 11 YEARS, so we're doing 10 miles for every year we've been open! π
π Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th November
β° 11 HOURS OF CYCLING IN TOTAL
π― FUNDRAISING TARGET: Β£5,000
The challenge will take place across the weekend, with our team taking turns on the bike as we work our way through the full 110 miles!
Read below to hear about some of the recent health updates from our cats at the cafe, and why we've decided to hold this fundraiser!
π± CARA β€οΈ
During a routine health check, we found that Cara has a small heart murmur. We had blood tests done, which all came back within the normal range, followed by a heart scan which confirmed a small grade 1 heart murmur.
Weβll be keeping an eye on this with regular check-ups and following the vets' advice on monitoring her.
We also know that Cara is a very slight little cat and can look a little on the skinny side! π But we want to reassure everyone that we've done multiple blood tests, scans and investigations, and nothing has shown up that is a health concern. She really is just a very slight little lady! β€οΈ
π± MARIE π
During one of Marie's routine health checks, an irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia) was detected. She went off to the vets for a check-up, but thankfully when she was examined again, her heart rhythm had returned to normal!
Because the irregular rhythm had gone, she didn't need a heart scan β which is very good news! π₯°
π± HOVIS π¦·
Following a routine check-up, our lovely Hovis has been found to need a dental in around 3β6 months' time.
Nothing to panic about β we'll get her booked in when the time comes and keep those pearly whites in check! πΈπ¦·
π± LANDO π¦·
Lando is also going to be joining the dental club! π
He's expected to need a dental in around six months' time, so we'll be keeping an eye on him and arranging this when needed.
π± SKUNK πΎ
Some of you may have noticed that Skunk hasn't been out on the cafΓ© floor as much recently.
Unfortunately, she injured her back leg and needed an X-ray. Thankfully, there were no broken bones, and the vets have diagnosed a soft tissue injury.
She's currently getting some much-needed rest and relaxation to give that back leg time to recover. She's doing really well, and hopefully she'll be back causing chaos on the cafΓ© floor very soon! β€οΈ
π± MINK π
If you've been following Mink since she first came into our care, you might remember that she had a slight head tilt when she was at the rescue.
Unfortunately, we've noticed that this has made a little comeback. We're monitoring her closely and keeping an eye on how she's doing, but she's otherwise getting on with being Mink! π
π± LADYBUG πΎ
Ladybug recently had a little trip to the vets after developing a cutaneous horn on the toe pad of her right paw.
She was seen by the vets and given some pain relief, and we're very happy to say that she's now been given the all clear! π₯°
π± AND A QUICK UPDATE ON MINK & MARIE... π±
If you remember, both Mink and Marie were previously diagnosed with luxating patellas in their back knees.
They'll be heading back to the Small Animal Hospital at Leahurst for another check-up. The vets will be assessing them and deciding whether they need to have CT scans of their back legs now, or whether it's better to wait until they've grown a little more before doing further investigations.
We'll obviously keep you all updated once we've been back to Leahurst and know what the next steps are. β€οΈ
Every single mile will be helping us raise money towards the ongoing care and medical expenses of the cats in our care.
