Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We are the StayCity Birmingham Aparthotels team and we are raising funds for Peer Power Youth, a charity supporting young people who have experienced childhood abuse, injustice and exclusion into professional careers.
The young people that Peer Power Youth works with have lived experience of trauma and adversity and, as a result, have been pushed into the care and justice services. Too often, these young people are overlooked and punished instead of being supported by these services and, consequently, are trapped into a cycle of disadvantage and unemployment.
To combat this, Peer Power Youth has co-created with young people with lived experience an employability-readiness initiative to support them into employment or education. The programme focuses on their personal and professional development by equipping them with essential employability skills, increases their confidence and well-being by honouring their experiences, hosting community-building activities and receiving professional therapy to navigate their trauma, and carves out a holistic pathway depending on their individual interests and passions.
Their programme really works - only 12% of the young people that they work with are in employment or education before they join their charity but this percentage rises to 94% only 6 months into this programme! Hear from one of their young people, Lucia:
“Thanks to the Peer Power Youth, I have learnt the power of my voice. I have been encouraged to realise the value of my lived experience of mental health difficulties and, as a result, I have been able to pursue a career in mental health. Peer Power Youth has equipped me with skills which are crucial in my current role such as workshop facilitation. I was always reminded of my talents and strengths, growing my confidence immensely.”
We would really appreciate if you could support our fundraising activities and donate to their cause, one we wholeheartedly believe in - let's do this!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
