At Princess Alice Hospice, we provide exceptional end of life care in our hospice and in the community. We know we can’t prevent death, but we do whatever we possibly can to make it the best it possibly can be. But, above all, we believe that hospice care is for living.

Story

“Dearest Peggy, beautiful, elegant, gorgeous hair, always enquiring about others and not complaining about your own situation, caring, fun, always one to take the maverick slant, always supporting the underdog, you were a true friend to so many and you will be truly, truly missed.”

Our dear friend Peggy died on 1 November 2023. Amongst her many qualities, she was a champion of those in need of support, speaking up for the voiceless and making an impact through charitable donations to numerous causes close to her heart.

As a tribute to Peggy’s lifelong generosity, I started this fundraiser to celebrate her birthday back in October, in support of Princess Alice Hospice where Peggy was so well cared for during the last five weeks of her life, and a place that she cherished. We continued our efforts to mark the Celebration of Peggy’s Life which took place at Pembroke Lodge in Richmond Park at the end of November, attended by more than 100 people who loved her.

To reach our target of £3,000, a group of us - Aileen, Catarina, Gwenda, Helena, Jane, Lurdes, Rachel, Sally and Sara - are taking part in the Princess Alice Hospice Santa Fun Run in Bushy Park on Sunday 10 December. This final milestone of the fundraiser is also a celebration of other loved ones we lost this year and who will be dearly missed this Christmas.

We would be so grateful if you could sponsor us. Your donations will spur us on to complete the 5k endeavour come rain or shine (and it’s looking like rain at the moment!), including the additional challenge we have set ourselves of saying hello to each and every dog we encounter. Walking with Peggy was always a slow business, not because of her illness, but because she had to talk to every dog she passed! A huge animal lover, she can be seen here with Sara’s dog Finn who will be joining us next Sunday, as will Sally’s dog Jasmine.

The thumbnail picture is of Peggy’s beloved cat Toddy who at 18 years of age is still going strong.

Thank you for your donations! X
