The Creation Station Animal Aid

Penelope Barron is raising money for Peoples Trust For Endangered Species
“Fund Raising with the CREATION STATION at Middleton Railway Museum ”
Our nature is disappearing. Animals like hedgehogs, dormice and stag beetles need our help to survive. But we can all make a difference. Help wild animals by setting yourself a challenge, and raise funds and awareness to give nature a helping hand.

Story

The Middleton Railway has asked Grumble Bear and me to run a series of CREATION STATION workshops this year.

We want to use our passion for creating art and crafts and sharing stories to raise money to help wild creatures.

Almost two-thirds of UK species have declined in the past 50 years, and one in ten faces the risk of extinction. Globally, it's estimated that between 10,000 and 100,000 species are becoming extinct every year. There's nothing natural or inevitable about the alarming rate at which we are losing animals and their living landscapes. It is absolutely avoidable.

According to a report published by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust in June 2024, 3,000 plant and animal species are at risk of extinction in Yorkshire. The report also says that nearly 2,000 species have already been lost from the county in the last 200 years.

Birds: Two-thirds of the regularly breeding and wintering birds in Britain found in Yorkshire are at risk, with national red- or amber-listing. Specific species under threat include swifts (which have declined by 50% in Yorkshire since 1995) and curlews

Mammals: The range of water voles has declined by 41% and red squirrels by 69% over the last 50 years, largely due to invasive species

Plants: Nearly 1 in 20 plant species have already been lost

Insects: 7% of Yorkshire’s moths have been lost.

PTES is an international conservation charity, working to protect animals and their habitats. They are passionate about protecting animals facing extinction in vulnerable habitats, but passion isn't enough: successful conservation is based on sound scientific evidence.

For over 40 years, our ground-breaking research has resulted in practical conservation action across the world, targeted where it is most needed and has the greatest impact.

Your support will make a real difference, helping us save and protect some of our most threatened species.
