The Great Bristol Run is back, and so are our amazing team of fundraisers running for local Hospice Care!

Story

Just over a year ago we sadly lost my wonderful mum, the most amazing nanny and loving wife to lung cancer. Even now it still doesn’t quite feel real. I still find myself expecting to be able to pick up the phone and hear her voice, to see her spoiling Wilf with far too many sweets, and laughing at all of Ted’s new little phrases.

There is so much I miss every single day. But alongside that sadness, there is also so much I feel deeply grateful for. In her final days she was able to be at home, surrounded by the people who loved her most.

I feel incredibly lucky that I could be by her side in the comfort of her own home — my childhood home — where she passed so peacefully and beautifully in our arms. That moment is something I will always carry with me and take comfort from.

This would not have been possible without the incredible support from St Peter’s Hospital, who helped us keep her comfortable and safe. They guided us through everything and helped us create a plan so we could care for her at home in the way she deserved.

We were so fortunate to be able to say goodbye in such a loving and peaceful way, and I hope that by raising money we can help other families have that same opportunity.

So, I’ve convinced my amazing friends and work colleagues to join me in running the Bristol 10k to raise money for St Peter’s, in memory of my mum and the incredible care she received.

Any support, big or small, means so much to us. Thank you. 🤍
