Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. I’m supporting Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS).
Why KSS?
Their helicopters are flying emergency rooms. When there’s a life-or-death call, they bring specialised doctors, paramedics, and treatment to the scene, fast. And they don’t stop 24/7, 365 days a year.
But without the support of people like you and me, they can’t get off the ground. Our support gets their lifesaving team to where they’re urgently needed.
Without us, they can’t keep flying. Without us, they can’t save lives.
This is the 2nd long-distance (I know that some of you guys are super fit and may not consider this distance to be particularly long, but for my capabilities, it certainly is!) walk that I have undertaken since recovering from Covid; the first being a complete circumnavigation of the Isle of Wight back in October ‘24.
Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance were one of the charities that I supported during that challenge and I am delighted to fund-raise for them again.
Having worked in, or closely with Blue Light services most of my working life, I am only too aware of the fantastic work undertaken by the Air Ambulance Service in the UK (and of course, elsewhere). Countless lives have been saved over the years by the ability of these crews to set-down on scene often having covered large distances in very short time, before administering vital medical treatment and then urgently transporting the patient to a hospital who are awaiting their arrival.
Although the Air Ambulance can be called in for any emergency, it is those who engage in and enjoy an active lifestyle that may stand to benefit the most, with the Air Ambulance often being the most if not only viable option to reach the patient. Hikers, Horse and Motorcycle riders, Fell-walkers and Mountaineers are just some groups of people that may rely on the Air Ambulance Service more than most of the population who go about their every day life before, unexpectedly, tragedy strikes.
You never know when the services of these charities will be needed and it is reassuring to know that if required, they are there - ready and waiting to respond.
Together with my two friends, Tim and John (who will be collecting funds for their own charity endeavours), we aim to walk Coast to Coast across England, using Hadrians Wall as a marker, a distance of approximately 100 miles.
We set off on Monday 03rd August and aim to complete the challenge in around 6 days. This is not a speed march and we have no previous ‘personal best’ to better. The challenge will be the distance itself and the desire to complete the walk in order to release any donations that have been pledged to their respective charities.
You may notice that I am collecting for several charities during this challenge. Do please take a look at the other pages to read into the background for each reason for selecting them as beneficiaries. There is, obviously, no requirement for you to donate to any or all of the charities.
Follow us in spirit if you prefer, watching our progress and reading our daily blog updates on these pages.
But……..if you are able to pledge funds, no matter how small, I and I know, the charities, would be extremely grateful.
Check back prior to the 03rd August to catch an update on how our preparations are going.
Best wishes
Perry
