Pete's fundraiser for Deaf Connexions

Pete Weston is raising money for Deaf Connexions

Ben Nevis 2026 · 12 September 2026 ·

Deaf Connexions supports Deaf people across Norfolk, helping them access services & raising awareness of Deafness. We mainly work with the BSL Deaf community, but anyone with hearing loss is welcome. Our vision is to improve Deaf people’s lives by breaking down daily barriers and promoting equality.

Story

This September 2026, I’ll be hiking to the summit of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK, to raise funds for Deaf Connexions, an organisation that makes a real difference to Deaf people in our local community. I’ll be taking on this challenge alongside around 20 members of the Deaf Community, which makes it even more special.

Although I’m not deaf myself, I have lived experience as a parent and have been closely connected with the Deaf Community for over 30 years. I’ve seen first-hand the impact Deaf Connexions has on people’s lives and I’m grateful for the friendships and experiences I’ve gained through the community. This challenge is my way of giving something back.

Recently, the community lost its safe space at the Norwich Deaf Centre after the building was declared unsafe. Deaf Connexions is now renting temporary spaces so vital services can continue, but this brings unexpected costs. Having previously managed a small local charity, I know how hard it is to maintain funding and keep essential services running.

My aim is to raise at least £700, but I would love to reach £1,000 or more to support the incredible work Deaf Connexions does.

I’ll be training between now and September and sharing updates along the way. Any donation, no matter the size, will help Deaf Connexions continue providing support and a safe place for the Deaf Community to come together.

Thank you so much for your support.
