Story
This September I'll be attempting the Great North Run stride for stride with my partner Laura - she genuinely loves running... I however do not. I have a strong dislike for running and can just about manage a 5k comfortably after a few weeks training.
If the idea of cheering on somebody completely out of their depth makes you smile then you've landed on the right page. There will be sweat (lots), absolutely zero grace, many blisters and whining, but hopefully plenty laughs along the way.
We're raising money for Northumberland Greyhound Rescue, a local volunteer run charity that is close to our hearts. When racing greyhounds are retired from the track, sometimes as young as 2 they are often left without homes to go to - a sorry end for animals so full of life, character, and resilience. Charities like NGR step in to support the re-homing process providing them with care and shelter until they find a sofa to call their own in a forever home.
Often thought of as high energy due to their racing background they are gentle, affectionate and calm, seeking comfort, routine and love. We rescued our girl, Whirly in January 2024 and she makes our house a home - claiming her own chair in the lounge as queen of the castle. Greyhounds make fantastic family pets - please consider rescuing if you're thinking about getting a dog.
We'd be super grateful for any donation, however big or small to help the hounds at Northumberland Greyhound Rescue. The more we raise, the bigger the burden of my training grows! NGR is also relocating its kennels and the funds would also support this move.
