Story
On 11th October I am due to run in the Royal Parks Half Marathon in London on a route through Hyde Park, Green Park, St James's Park and Kensington Gardens. I am taking this opportunity to raise money for Cancer Research UK (CRUK).
This will be the 8th (and probably last) time I'll tackle a formal half marathon (13.1 miles) event, to add to the two full marathons that I completed in 2022 and 2023. At the age of 78 I am certainly not expecting to achieve a personal best time; my aim is to run at a steady (slowish) pace and complete the course.
My family and I, and many friends, have been affected by cancer. It is now eleven years since my dear wife, Marjorie, died of a rare form of cancer. Also, at around the same time, I was diagnosed, through the excellent screening service, with early-stage bowel cancer. I was very fortunate to benefit from expert care and treatment which has enabled me to continue leading a full and active life. Amongst my closest friends, cancer has had a major impact. Tremendous progress has been made in preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer but there is still so much more research to do to improve survival rates.
I realise that you probably receive many requests for donations and will have favourite charities that you support. Any support that you might give through this page today will be greatly appreciated as it will help advance the important work of CRUK while inspiring me to reach the finish line.
Thank you.
Peter
