Story

Moving Through the Dark: A Year of Miles for Mum

On the 26th February 2025, I lost my mum. There are no words to describe the void that leaves behind. Grief is a heavy, stagnant thing, but I’ve decided that I won’t let it pull me under. Instead, I am going to use it as fuel.

This year, I am pushing myself to the absolute limits of human endurance to honor her memory and to support CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably).

Why CALM?

No one should have to face their darkest moments alone. CALM stands against suicide and provides a lifeline for those who feel they have nowhere left to turn. By taking on these challenges, I want to raise money to fund their life saving services and to prove that even when life feels impossible, we can keep moving forward one step at a time.

The 2026 Challenge Calendar

I’ve set myself a series of goals that scare me. From the trails of Chester to the peaks of the Himalayas, this is my year of endurance:

Feb 28th: Chester 50-Miler (The Warm-up) ✅️ 9:41

March 8th: Colchester Half Marathon (Finding my speed) ✅️ 1:34

April 4th: Manchester to Liverpool 50 miler. ✅️ 8:17

April 18th: Chester 100-Miler (my second "Century" test) ✅️ 22:26

June 3rd: Everest Base Camp Trek (High-altitude endurance in Nepal) ✅️

July 25th: Beaconsway 100-Miler (A historic test of grit)

Sept 7th: The Dragon’s Back, Wales (The Final Boss: 380km of world-famous, multi-day mountain racing)

Nov 21: Greater Manchester 200 miler (The final boss)

Your Support

The Dragon’s Back is widely considered one of the toughest mountain races in the world, but it pales in comparison to the struggle of mental health or the pain of losing a parent.

Every penny raised goes directly to CALM to help them be there for people who are struggling. Whether you can donate the price of a coffee or the price of a pair of running shoes, every bit of support will keep my legs moving when they want to quit.

Thank you for helping me turn my grief into something that might just save a life.

We’re Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), and we’re a suicide prevention charity. We’ve got loads of tools and resources to help people find the support they need, including a life-saving helpline for people who can’t see a way forward, have lost someone to suicide, or are worried about their friends or loved ones.

£12.20 is enough to fund one potentially life-saving call.
