Action in Africa in memory of Peter Exworthy

In 1997, Father Simeon Katama from St Charles Luanga, in Nyaishozi, Tanzania, visited St Michael’s Parish. He brought news of his brother, who had died, leaving two young daughters. Now orphaned, they would be unable to afford to continue with their education. Peter Exworthy immediately sponsored the two little girls and Action in Africa was born. Since then, the charity has flourished to include supporters and those supported from all faiths and backgrounds. Our Committee in Nyaishozi and our Committee in Ashtead are both multi-faith. Support now comes from across Ashtead and indeed from across the U.K.
Tanzania has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the world. Action in Africa's 25th Anniversary Appeal is to fund the purchase of six incubators, costing £6,000 each. We have already bought one for Nyaishozi; we are now raising funds to buy our second one, which will go to Kibogoizi.
