99 Waterfalls Swim & Dip Challenge
Hey folks.
I was inspired by a good friend who walked from John 'O Groats to Land's End in only 76 days and raised thousands for dementia care, to do a little challenge of my own!
Being honest I can't do long distance walks to save my life but I am a keen & passionate wild swimmer & have been for many years, being particularly fond of rivers and waterfall pools.
It's not clear how long it will take but certainly over the course of this year and next year I intend to swim (or dip if not deep enough) in 99 different waterfall pools mostly in Yorkshire but around the country as well. It's gonna be really exciting and really challenging at the same time. Exciting because obviously I love swimming in waterfalls and am looking forward to revisiting old favourite spots as well as discovering new ones. Challenging because the water can get cccccccccccold especially during winter months and I intend to keep swimming and dipping throughout this period. Besides, there can also be come tricky walking and scrambling involved...risky stuff!!!
I intend to raise money for 1) mental health because I know mental health is so important. It's something a lot of people out there are struggling with and I've had my fair share of ups and downs of it over the years, but I've found a fresh waterfall dip really picks my psyche and well-being up. 2) for river environmental protection, because our waterways in this country are now being badly polluted and not being looked after. Already, just 3-4 trips into this challenge I've collected so much litter carelessly dumped dumped into or around various rivers I've seen.
Thanks so much folks. Please look out for my facebook page 'Peter Laydm' (yes it's the only one of that name!!!) for updates and news and see where I'm up to. :)
