Story
Mert Zorlu the Muhteşem (Magnificent)
Sadly we lost our great friend Mert to MND last year. We worked together for nearly 14 years and became good friends. His amazing life story from being a fighter pilot to selling cars and being a loving family man were always an inspiration. He was a truly exceptional human being and someone I'm very glad I had the pleasure of knowing.
Mert had always been a keen marathon runner and even after his diagnosis with MND he still managed to complete the Glasgow 10k!
Mert and I had chatted last year about doing a fundraiser for MND Scotland as he was so grateful for their tremendous support to himself, Frances and the family.
So I decided to run the Ayrshire Coast Sunset Ultra 50k in June 2026. We spoke about him being there to cheer me on but sadly it was the last time we spoke and he passed away the following week.
This race is a huge task but a most fitting one as it starts at sunset and finishes at sunrise over the River Clyde. A sunset much loved by Mert which he often watched from his house in Fairlie.
If you can please give a donation to our fundraiser so we can help support other families and work towards a cure.
Here's a bit about the charity -
MND Scotland is the only Scottish charity providing care and support to people affected by Motor Neuron Disease (MND), as well as funding research to take us a step closer to a cure.
We want a world without Motor Neuron Disease, so I’m fundraising because I want to help find a cure for this devastating disease.
Sponsoring me will also help MND Scotland to provide practical, financial, and emotional support to people affected by MND.
Thank you!
