On 11 October 2026 I'll be lining up for the MBNA Chester Marathon - 26.2 miles around the city and out into the Cheshire and Welsh borders - to raise money for the Countess of Chester Charity.

I've run several marathons before, so I know what the day asks of you: the months of early-morning miles, the wall at mile 20, the stubborn refusal to walk. I love it. But this one means a great deal to me because of the cause I'm running for.

I'm a Non-Executive Director and Audit Committee Chair at the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. That role takes me inside the organisation in a way most people never see, and what I've found there has really inspired me. I've seen the care and the seriousness the leadership brings to difficult decisions, and I've seen the thousands of colleagues across the Trust who turn up, day and night, to look after our community. They are remarkable, and they are the reason I'm doing this.

The charity exists to go beyond what NHS funding alone can provide — funding the extra equipment, the improvements to wards and spaces, and the support for patients, families and staff that make a real difference to people at some of the hardest moments of their lives. Every pound raised stays local and goes towards making care at the Countess even better.

So I'm putting in the training, and I'm asking for your support. Whatever you can give, large or small, will go directly to a cause I believe in deeply, for an organisation and a team I'm genuinely proud to be part of. Thank you for backing me, and for backing them.
