Story
REMAP is the UK’s only charity providing custom-made equipment, free of charge for disabled people.
On 2nd January my dad and I were up on Blencathra in the Lake District, when he tragically died in a fall from Sharp Edge. He had always been a confident walker and climber, introducing me and my brother Patrick to many walks, scrambles and climbs all over the UK.
In the last few years my dad was a volunteer for the local branch of Remap, constructing things like ramps, handrails and various other items - with dad, primarily out of wood - to make other peoples lives easier. I remember my grandad Don Brien also being an excellent woodworker, and in fact many of dad’s tools were originals from his father.
He was also the chairman of the Derby, Burton and District branch of Remap, being the first point of contact for new enquiries and organising the local volunteers.
He was always more practical than sentimental, and enjoyed making a difference to people whose life has become difficult; raising money for Remap to continue this work would be a lovely tribute to him.
