The Scott Carter Foundation raises money for childhood cancer research. We are looking for less toxic treatments, new drug development, and ultimately, a cure for all children in this battle with the number ONE disease killer of children.

Petrie's story

We are excited to once again support the Scott Carter Foundation for the upcoming 2026-2027 runDisney season. The Petrie Family are back together celebrating another exciting running year. We will all be participating in the runDisney Wine & Dine Challenge (19.3 miles – 10 km and Half Marathon) as well as the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. We will all do the 10 km with Jennifer and Alison following up with the Half Marathon and Nicole and JP doing the full Marathon. The 2026-2027 Race Season is the Scott Carter Foundation's 15th Anniversary participating as a charity partner in runDisney events. This anniversary season promises to be more than just a series of races; it’s a celebration of resilience, community, and the unwavering quest for a cure. Participants and supporters will come together, not only to experience the magic of race weekend but to honor Scott’s legacy. We remain committed to advancing research and finding a cure for all childhood cancers.

The SCF is devoted to raising funds for children's cancer research. Scott was a 13-year old boy who died in December 1993 after a courageous three-year battle with bone cancer. He believed that if enough time, energy and money were devoted to children's cancer research, a cure could be found. During the duration of his illness, he put together a remarkable collection of sports and celebrity memorabilia, which was previously on display at the Wide World of Sports. The SCF partners with runDisney and participates in all their run events to raise money and further Scott's dream of finding a cure!

The Scott Carter Foundation has made a difference for children's cancer research in the honor of a courageous young boy, Scott Carter. We are hoping to contribute to his legacy and use his inspiration to keep our family moving forward on a path of healthier living.
