Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
In February 2025 I sought a second opinion about my vision being blurry from a different optician. I explained to her that I had a blur and that it had been getting bigger for around 2 years. I walked in to this appointment at 9am and I left after many checks and tests at 12:30pm with a referral being made, urgently, to the hospital eye unit with the educated guess that I had a pituitary tumour.
That same afternoon I was in the eye unit and more tests were done and the same educated guess was made by the doctor here too. He booked an MRI to confirm and also referred me for more tests with a doctor in the endocrinology team.
1 week later I was put on steroids and 2 weeks after that I had the MRI and shortly after that I had more tests across 3 different teams 6 appointments in 2 weeks and a referral for surgery to remove a pituitary tumour which was compressing my optic chasm.
From second opinion to surgery was roughly 10 weeks and I was in hospital for 1 week total.
Since then I am 5 months post operation and still have some tumour left behind due to where it is attached. Luckily for me the tumour is benign and non-cancerous but it could still regrow and if it does I will likely need hormone replacement for the rest of my life.
To help me get through all of this and to keep everything clear in my head I set up an Instagram page - TumourtoCricket.
Now to the reason I have set this JustGiving page up...
...during my recovery I was highly restricted in what I could and couldn't do and last year I worked out that all of the restrictions totalled to 90 days. 90 days of no cricket, no running just complete rest and being extremely careful. In November last year (2025) I reclaimed these days by walking 90 miles through the month and raised £500 for The Pituitary Foundation while doing so AND now in 2026 I want to get others involved and raise money doing the very thing I love but couldn't do... playing cricket!
So on the 13th September 2026 at Sparkford Cricket Club in Somerset we're going to play a 30 over per team charity cricket game for fun and it's going to be a brilliant day! Stalls, bbq, bar, community engagement AND cricket!
Anything you can donate is much appreciate even if it is just £1! All of the money raised goes to further grow the reach and support that The Pituitary Foundation can offer!
Thank you for being amazing!
Matt
