Phil's fundraiser for Acorns Children's Hospice Trust

London Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 ·
Henry was one of my best friends. We were close like brothers and his family are an extension of my own. Henry had Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and was lucky enough to recieve and enjoy the fantastic support that Acorns were able to provide. He was in a chair since the age of 6, yet despite this, he lived life to the full. He was witty, confident, caring, loving - the qualities we all aspire to have. He had the support of a big friendship group who took him everywhere and anywhere, nothing was too much to ask of any of them. He never let his disability get in his way and we went to multiple music and food festivals where he didn't want to sit in the disability area, but wanted to be as close to the front of the stage as possible, right in amongst the action. He was a season ticket holder at Aston Villa. We would take day trips out to the best street food locations in London, multiple different gigs, holidays to cornwall and devon pushing him along the beach - all sorts.
Hen was taken by ambulance to hospital on 1st April when we were hanging out at my house watching football. After contracting a virus, he stedily declined and despite his impressive resilience, his body gave up on him and on 7th May 2024, Henry passed away aged 25.
I’m beyond proud to be running the London Marathon, not only to raise money for Acorns incredible charity and to give others the opportunities they gave to Henry, but for everyone who knew and loved Hen. I want to keep raising as much as we can for Acorns, spread the word, help others and celebrate an incredible life.
