Phil's fundraiser for Douglas Macmillan Hospice - Running 81 miles from Cumbria to Lancashire.

Phil Dunn is raising money for Douglas Macmillan Hospice
In memory of Janet Dunn

I will be running from Walney Island (Cumbria) to Glasson Dock (Lancashire) 81 miles away. · 28 March 2026

Douglas Macmillan Hospice (Dougie Mac) is the only hospice in Staffordshire supporting Children, Young Adults & Adults. Care is given to patients who are living with a life-limiting illness at our two sites and in the community. We also provide support for patients families and their carers.

Story

Due to a calf injury I will be rescheduling my run for Saturday 28th March 2026.

In the early hours of Saturday 5th April 2025, I will be setting off running from Walney Island (Cumbria) and I will then be following the National Cycle Network route 700 to Glasson Dock (Lancashire) 81 miles away. I will be passing through Barrow-in-Furness, Ulverston, Cartmel (I will need a sticky toffee pudding stop!), Grange-over-Sands, Levens (time for another cake stop!), Arnside, Carnforth (I Hope to see a steam train), Morecambe then on to Lancaster which will set me up for the home stretch to Glasson Dock.

I will be doing the run to raise money and awareness for Dougie Mac Hospice. https://dougiemac.org.uk/ in memory of my loving mum Janet Dunn who unfortunately passed away after losing her battle with a Glioblastoma on the 10th August 2024. The support that my mum and family received from the kind helpful staff and volunteers will never be forgotten.

Dougie Mac has been caring for the community since 1973. Each year, they provide hospice services free of charge to over 3,500 local people with life-limiting illnesses in Stoke-on-Trent, North Staffordshire, and the surrounding villages, as well as supportive care for their families and carers.
