Philip Marathonning for Leigh

adidas Manchester Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 ·
Hey there, thank you for visiting my page. On April 27th I'm running the Manchester Marathon in memory of my mate Leigh Gaskin. Leigh was a right charmer who brought energy and multiplied big stupid grins in every room he was in.
He birthed, and surely perfected, The Atworth Challenge (IYKYK). He did a mean moonwalk. He was one of only five people to get their arses out on Westbury White Horse during Easter 2006.
His popularity is evidenced by the many dozens of people who've raised money in his name for Sarcoma UK since he passed more than ten years ago. Fundraising invariably happens in the first year or two of someone not being around, but that's not been the case for Leigh.
At the time, what happened felt quite incredibly cruel to me. But him not being around for parties, stags, weddings, kids etc. feels crueller the older we get*.
So that's why I'm running my marathon for Sarcoma UK: to try and limit the amount of times that cruel stories like this get told.
Sarcoma is the bone and tissue cancer that affected Leigh and which disproportionately attacks children and young people. It's difficult to diagnose and one of the hardest to treat; sarcomas are one of the most life-threatening cancers children may experience.
Research that looks to change the way these cancers are treated is an urgent and vital component to bring a change for children with this diagnosis, and that's what Sarcoma UK do.
To date, Leigh's friends and family have raised more than £40,000 for Sarcoma UK and anything you give on my behalf will be added to that massive total.
Thanks xxxxx
*though to be fair to the lad, he's avoided a lot of Spurs-based disappointment.
