As many of you know, my wife Lorraine has been in Alban Manor Nursing Home since March 2025. The love, compassion, dignity and exceptional nursing care she receives at Alban Manor is incredible. It is not just given to Lorraine but extends to me, our immediate family, and the whole army of friends who visit her every day. Lorraine has been part of HCPT for over 20 years and during the Summer of 2025 I started discussing with Delia and her team the possibility of taking Lorraine to Lourdes this Easter, in the full knowledge of what a clinical and logistical conundrum this would be. The Alban Manor Team with their 'can do' mindset made it happen, and Lorraine was in Lourdes from April 6th - 12th you can see some of her story on the Alban Manor and HCPT Group 149 Facebook Pages, and at hcptgroup149.org.uk..

I am now humbled and privileged to tell you that the Directors and Staff at Alban Manor have chosen HCPT Group 149 St Albans as their chosen charity to support at this year’s St Albans Half Marathon. There will be a team of seven, six from Alban Manor and yours truly taking to the streets on June 14th.

2026 was the 30th Anniversary of our group, with the primary focus of taking children with a variety of special needs to Lourdes every Easter. The children travel on a no-cost basis, and each place carries a cost of £1400.00. The cost of the 2026 Pilgrimage to our group was in excess of 40k, with all of this money raised through fundraising, charitable donations and amazing benefactors. The week in Lourdes, also gives much needed respite time to the parents and carers of the children we take.

Our group motto is ‘No One Gets Left Behind’ and that certainly included Lorraine this year…
