Phil’s Close Shave for Christmas

Close Shave for Christmas · 20 December 2024
In May this year, my wife, Lorraine, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. The cancer was in the form of an invasive lobular carcinoma which is difficult to identify and, therefore, came as a complete shock to us both.
Following two operations over the summer, Lorraine is now in the middle of an intensive course of chemotherapy which will continue through to February. This will be followed by two years of further treatments including radiotherapy.
Lorraine lost her hair in the second round of chemo. This was one of a number of significant hurdles that she has had to deal with over the past six months. Tynedale Hospice have provided counselling support throughout the journey so far and will be a key part of the process as Lorraine progresses through her treatment.
Most of you will know that I’m not going to be the best carer in the world but I want to ride this journey with Lorraine and I want to be useful where I can. With that in mind, I’m going to shave my hair (a grade 0 to be exact) in time for Christmas so that we can experience the festive period together with no hair (although I may borrow her wig if it gets cold).
All funds raised from my Close Shave event will go to Tynedale Hospice to support their amazing efforts in supporting people through life changing events or difficult periods in their lives. This work often goes unnoticed but is essential for keeping us on the right track.
Any support you can provide will be appreciated.
