Supporting Bowland and Pennine Mountain Rescue Team Update on “Tron’s Ride” – Challenge Postponed
We’re heartbroken to share that we’ve had to make the difficult decision to postpone this year’s fundraising challenge in memory of our beloved Lawrence (“Tron”).
Two unforeseen and deeply personal events have made it impossible for us to continue with the plan at this time:
Phil, (Trons Dad) our dedicated support driver, has just received the news that he has been diagnosed with bowel cancer. 100% curable ...
At the same time, Jade—Andy’s wife and Trons sister—has suffered an accident and will be undergoing knee surgery during the period the ride was due to take place.
With these health concerns affecting our families, we know the right thing to do is to pause and support our loved ones through this time.
Though the ride is postponed, our commitment to honouring Tron and supporting Bowland and Pennine Mountain Rescue Team remains stronger than ever. We still plan to take on this journey, and we will be back with new dates once our families are in a better place.
To everyone who has supported us so far thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your kindness and donations mean so much to us and to Mountain Rescue, who continue to provide life-saving support to those in need.
In the meantime, if you feel able to donate or share our story, it would mean the world. Every penny still goes directly to the rescue team and the vital work they do.
We’ll keep you updated—and we promise, this ride for Tron will happen.

With love and gratitude,
Tron’s family
On Sunday 4th September 2022, at 12:50 PM, the Bowland and Pennine Mountain Rescue Team were called to assist in the search for our beloved Lawrence known to many as Tron. Family and friends had already been searching tirelessly for 24 hours when Mountain Rescue arrived in Leyland.
Twenty-five volunteers gave up their day and searched for eight hours. It was they who eventually found Tron, in a quiet, secluded place where he had chosen to leave us. As heart breaking as it was, we are incredibly grateful it was Mountain Rescue who found him. Had it been a friend or family member, the pain would have been even more unbearable.
In the time since, our family has been learning to move forward without Tron. And now, we feel it's time to give something back to those who helped us when we needed it most.
Many think of Mountain Rescue as helping stranded climbers in remote, rugged terrain, and they do. But they are much more than that. They are a selfless, disciplined, and compassionate team of volunteers—ready to respond, without hesitation or judgment, whenever and wherever they’re needed.
Tron made the tragic decision to end his life, but Mountain Rescue answered the call with dignity and care. Their work brought us a measure of peace.
This vital service is entirely run by unpaid volunteers, donations go directly toward maintaining rescue vehicles, funding essential training, and buying life-saving equipment.
A Journey for Tron
To honour Tron and support Mountain Rescue, his brother-in-law Andy is undertaking a remarkable challenge.
He will cycle from “Tron’s Tree” in Leyland, where Tron was found, to our family memorial tree in France a journey of approximately 700 miles.
As if that weren’t enough, Andy will then take on a leg of the Tour de France:
130 km from Albertville to La Plagne, with a brutal 4,500 metres of elevation through the Alps.
This incredible journey is entirely self-funded by Andy and his support team, so every penny raised goes directly to Mountain Rescue.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support.
Your donation will help ensure Mountain Rescue teams have the very best equipment and resources to continue their life-saving work—for families like ours, and so many others.
